Obesity is when an individual’s overall body weight is too large. This is determined through a
measure of one’s body mass index. Obesity is known to be associated with
diseases such as heart disease, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, certain
cancers, diabetes and more. African Americans and other ethnic minority populations
are at an increased risk of being overweight and obese.
